I was able to finish draw two in my Roulette Card game a few days. So it is time for a new draw...... Next up is The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo by Tom Reiss. I wanted to pair this reading with The Count of Monte Cristo which I started back in August. I got sidetracked and still have about 50% of Edmond Dantès' tale to finish. I've thourghly enjoyed what I have read so far of Dumas' fictional tale. The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in the Biography category. Just who is the Black Count, the Count of Monte Cristo that Alexandre Dumas basis his character off of? A man known as General Alex Dumas, the father of novelist Alexandre Dumas, who used his life story to inspire The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers. General Dumas was born in Saint-Domingue (Haiti), the son of a black slave. Making his way to Paris, he excelled to heights not common for his lineage and commanded armies during the French Revolution. This book explores the real life, swashbuckling, sword fighting and captive held life of General Dumas. I'm in the middle of a little rearranging of elements on the blog. So some elements are still being tweaked to function properly, mainly the categories and archive links to the right. |
