Yikes, the year is half gone already. Checkpoint post from My Reader's Block. If you are participating in this challenge be sure to stop by Reader's Block and read the rules for the post to be entered into the prize drawing.
Recap of goal, climb to the summit of Mt. Ararat (48 books):
Located in Turkey, this dormant volcano has two peaks wisely named the Greater Ararat and the Lesser Ararat. The Greater Ararat is the highest peak in Turkey and stands at 16,854 feet, the Lesser Ararat stands at 12,782 feet. Somewhat of a mid-sized mountain when compared to the likes of Everest at just over 29,000 feet. Even Mt. McKinley, the tallest in the United States, stands at 20,320 feet. So have I bored you with mountain heights yet? According to the book of Genesis, Noah's ark came to rest on the Mountains of Ararat and Armenia uses the mountain in the center of their coat of arms.
Progress: 11/48 books (23%) | 1. Tell us how many miles you've made it up your mountain (# of books read). If you're really ambitious, you can do some intricate math and figure out how the number of books you've read correlates to actual miles up Pike's Peak, Mt. Ararat, etc. And feel free to tell us about any particularly exciting adventures you've had along the way. |
My trek has started off slowly! Unfortunately, I have found myself reading library books and newly acquired books too frequently lately. I have my trekking order for the next half of the year, look at my TBR pile more!
Officially, I have only made it half way to the Village starting point for official treks up the mountain. The village is located at about 7218 feet (2200 m), putting it at 42% of the height to the summit. I have only managed to complete 11 books from my TBR pile, equating to 3876 feet (23%).
Two of the books I have completed have been hanging around in my currently reading list (yes, I hadn't read 50% of them yet, so they count). This is a nice accomplishment, as my currently reading list seems to always be bulging at 30 plus books. I was able to go back with the help of a read-a-long and complete Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, which I had started in November, so it wasn't sitting dormant for long. The Search for WondLa (WondLa #1) by Tony DiTerlizzi however, I had started a few pages and set it aside for no particular reason prior to September of 2012. I had set a goal for this year to read nine of the books that at the point of the new year had been on my currently reading list for over six months, this definitely qualified.

2. Complete ONE (or more if you like) of the following:
A. Choose two titles from the books you've read so far that have a common link. You decide what the link is--both have strong female lead characters? Each focuses on a diabolical plot to take over the world? Blue covers? About weddings? Find your link and tell us what it is.
The Voyage of the "Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
The link, the open seas, both books have an adventure on the sea prior to landing to search for the desired treasure they seek.
From my TBR pile I am currently working to finish these next:
Here is my post with all the books listed.
