Button from Bout of Books blog Progress: 238/950 pages (25%) | Contestant number: 727 ~ Plethora (new number, guess some people deleted links) Day 5 of Bout of Books Read-A-Thon. Accomplishments from Day 4: I have decided I need to take a speed reading class, but who has time for that? Oh well, carry-on I shall, the weekend brings hope of catching up, maybe? I have been chipping away at the mini-goals set for various books. I have completed 3 of the 7. I think the trick is to have a week off of the rest of life, as implied by the button image ;)
|
My overall goal for the week is 950 pages, a modest average of 135 pages a day.
Minimum book plans for the week:
- Part One of Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak ~ p. 3-128
- The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis ~ p. 1-217
- Volume One of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen ~ p. 3-175
- Book Two of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis ~ p. 35-65 (Completed)
- Book Three of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis ~ p. 69-150 (Completed)
- Part Two of Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert ~ p. 58-183 (Completed)
- Chapters 1-6 of Red Land, Black Land: Daily Life in Ancient Egypt by Barbara Mertz ~ p.6-123
Daily Challenges
1. Cover Scavenger Hunt hosted by Book Monsters (check host link for full details and giveaway entry form)
Twitter @thebookmonsters
Hop over to Book Monsters site and checkout the graphic with nine partial covers for books that have recently been reviewed on the blog. Find the books and enter to win.
I had way too much fun poking around The Book Monsters blog. I do have a weakness for middle grade books, they make a nice break from heavy classics or non-fiction history books when you need to give the brain muscle a break from its workout.
Beware, I have forewarned you, you may spend entirely too long poking around Kate and Kristen's blog and ignoring your reading time and instead adding books to your TBR pile and wishlist.
2. Rainbow Book Challenge hosted by Neon Yeti Reads (check host link for full details and to submit your link)
Twitter @neonyetireads
Here’s your challenge: Create a stack of book spines from your bookshelf, or post pictures of the covers, that go in rainbow order: start with white on the bottom, then red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (purple), violet (like a darker purple), and then black! The spine should have at least a majority be the color you are looking for, but just use your best judgement to get the rainbow-like flow.

I took the easy way out and raided one of the juvenile shelves of books we own, as they are the easiest at finding colorful spines. My stash of beloved Penguin Classics and Oxford Classic don't round out a rainbow well with just black and white. White: The Magic Half by Annie Barrows Red: Clarice Beans Spells Trouble by Lauren Child Orange: The Prophet of Yonwood by Jeanne Duprau Yellow: The Gollywhopper Games by Jody Feldman Green: Sir Fartsalot Hunts the Booger by Kevin Bolger Blue: The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster Indigo: W.I.T.C.H. Graphic Novel #2: Meridian Magic Violet: Mackenzie Blue #1 by Tina Wells Black: The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau |
