Barry S. Strauss is a military historian and received his history degrees from Cornell and Yale. Having lived and studied around the world he also speaks multiple foreign languages. He is a professor at Cornell in history and classics. His works include The Spartacus War, The Trojan War: A New History, and his latest work Masters of Command: Alexander, Hannibal, Caesar, and the Genius of Leadership, more books to add to my wish list!
The Battle of Salamis, 480 B.C. when Greek warships face the invading Persian forces in the narrow Salamis Straits. This battle was the most important naval battle in the ancient world, the Greeks were heavily outnumbered but brilliantly were able to defeat their enemy.
